With smartphones becoming the main focus of entertainment in our lives, the humble TV has taken the backseat. Although, with TVs becoming smart, it’s time that we combine the best of both worlds such as, TV and smartphones, and come up with the ideal solution, ‘screen mirroring.’
Whether it’s through Chromecast or HDMI cables, the options to mirror your phone’s screen to the TV are ample. Although, if you own an iPhone and an Android TV, the situation gets a bit tricky because of the apparent reason — clash of the tech titans.
Do not anxious; help is on the way in the form of AirPlay. Despite some features of AirPlay, it alone cannot pull off such stunts. That’s when a 3rd party Android app comes in handy. The application of the hour is AirScreen – AirPlay & Chromecast & DLNA. This application creates a server of its own and, with the assistance of Wi-Fi, mirrors the phone’s screen to the Android TV just in a matter of seconds.
Now, let’s jump straight in and see how this set-up of Apple’s AirPlay and the Android app works.
Note: Android TV and the iPhone required to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
1. Get the Application and Start the Server
Download and Install the AirScreen application on your Android TV through Google Play Store.
If your TV does not have the Google Play Store, you can download the apk file and sideload the application.
2. Start the Server
Afterward, start the server on your Android TV. Open the application and navigate to the Start Server option and tap the Start icon.
Fun Fact: Unlike other applications that use Bluetooth, AirPlay works over the Wi-Fi network.
3. Connect to Android TV
When the server has started, you will be able to see the device ID, server name, and even the Wi-Fi name on the TV screen.
Now you are done, it’s time to connect the iPhone.
4. Connect iPhone
Head over to your iPhone and click on AirPlay. You will see the server’s name pop up on the screen.
Just one click is all it takes to connect to the Android TV. When connected, your iPhone’s screen will be at once mirrored to the TV. Simple, isn’t it?
To disconnect, click on Stop Mirroring.
Now, all you’ve to do is sit back and enjoy the show with the added benefits of a bigger screen.
Free vs. Pro Version
AirScreen is available free of charge on Google Play Store. While the free version will allow you to play or mirror 15 videos per day, this restriction or limitation will be removed if you subscribe to the application.
The monthly subscription plan will cost only $ 2.60 (Rs 170), whereas the annual subscription plan is priced at $21.13.
